Full Name Daisy Adair Alias N/A Canon Dead Like Me Canon Point Post-series/ignoring the film (most true Dead Like Me fans do, as the cast was altered greatly and the characterizations were written poorly by comparison to their series counterparts, Daisy being one of the roles both recast and poorly characterized) Birthday / Age 06.06.1914 / 102 (she was 24 when she died, leaving her technically 24 forever) Species Grim Reaper PB Laura Harris Sexuality Heterosexual Daisy, quite contrary to what was considered acceptable in her time, is very open-minded and loose-lipped about her sexuality. While she's not interested in women, she wouldn't be opposed to feigning it if she needed to do so in order to accomplish something she wanted (for example, if she needed to be close to a reclusive woman in order to reap her soul before death). Daisy has a very high opinion of herself and has no problem kissing and telling (Mason once referred to her tales as "the legendary blowjobs of yore" because she tells so many stories of sex, specifically oral sex, with famous silver screen actors of the 1920s and 1930s before her death). She's very confident and uses her assets to get her attention when she wants it, so it would make sense that she would be interested in trying just about anything at least once, although probably in a more dominant role. History Daisy AdairPersonality For a woman of one hundred and two years, Daisy looks damn good and she knows it. She exudes confidence, fashion-sense that revolves with the times in which she finds herself, and a go-get-'em attitude. She won't take any bullshit and she's quick, in canon, to let people know when they're toeing or crossing the line. She's self-centered and self-absorbed, to be sure, but she's not completely a lost cause. Once you've endeared yourself to her, she tends to make a very good friend. ...if you can overlook the fact that, most of the time, she finds a way to talk about herself, no matter what the circumstance. She's strong-willed and protective; Daisy has lived too long and seen the times change too much to tolerate misogyny, racism, or homophobia and she'll be the first to speak up and tell someone what an ignorant piece of shit she thinks they're being if she sees these traits in others. Another thing for which Daisy has no patience is a man abusing a woman. Her sister, it was hinted in canon, was murdered by a man with whom she had been having an affair and Daisy went out of her way (against the rules) to finger the murderer of a woman in a similar situation when she had to reap that woman's soul before death. Violence against women, especially by men, is something Daisy will not tolerate and, depending on the situation at hand, she could and would come very near to killing a man to protect a woman in that scenario — she can and will gravitate toward women in abusive relationships, befriend and attempt to empower them, because that sort of treatment, above all, makes Daisy sick with rage.
Under the bravado, though, Daisy is a lonely woman. She's resigned herself to the fact that she can never love or be loved; she'll never be "that girl" who gets married and has babies. She's dead and has been for almost eighty years; Reapers are meant to stay on the periphery of life and not get close to anyone, so she's accepted that. It doesn't stop her from making friends with other Reapers or having sex with humans so that she can "feel alive" again, but Daisy isn't the girl who will ever fall into a steady relationship. People will die and she will not. There's no sense falling in love with someone she'll outlive. But even with that mindset, it doesn't stop her watching happy couples now and again and wishing she could have what they do. Her final thought, according to canon, before she died in 1938 was, "why has no one ever loved me?"
She's very much attracted to fame, money, and power. Daisy tends to try to mingle with those types, drawn especially to rich or famous men, whether or not she finds them physically attractive. Having been brought up in the 1920s in the South, she was raised to believe that she should fall in love, marry a rich man, and be pampered for the rest of her life. Those ideals are still in the back of her mind, even if she won't ever feel inclined to marriage; it won't stop her from coming on to rich or famous men as almost a reflex.
With a life that will never end and a spoiled and entitled attitude, a Reaper like Daisy has to make a living somehow. She will not take a job unless it puts her on the small or silver screen and she has, over the years, therefore taken to stealing from the dead she's reaped or manipulating and conning the living those reaps leave behind. In fact, the reason she ended up in Rube's merry band of Reapers is because she was transferred from her group in SoHo, NY for these sorts of practices, which are frowned upon in the Reaper community. So, sometimes she can be manipulative if she wants or needs something and has no other ways to get it. Daisy is not and will never be above using her womanly wiles to get what she wants out of a man. Special Abilities As a Reaper, Daisy is dead. So, she cannot be killed; she's already there. She also heals almost instantly from any injury, and she has the ability (albeit, forced) to appear differently to the living and the dead. At this stage in her life, she simply looks like herself both to the living and the dead, because most people who would have known her when she was alive have since died and there is no need to hide her identity to keep from raising too many questions.
Daisy has supernatural strength, although she seldom shows it. She also has the ability to, with a special touch, reap the soul of a living person before they die, so that their soul doesn't rot in the corpse. It also prevents them from feeling pain when they die, and she is visible to the dead at that time, so that no one ever truly has to die alone so long as she's assigned to their soul. Daisy can see the Lights to which she leads her reaped souls so that they can move on to the afterlife, and while canonically she does have the ability to follow them into those Lights if invited, they're different for each person and catered to that particular soul, so she never will piggyback, as much as sometimes she might want to. Strengths - ADVOCACY • Daisy is an advocate of rights, because she's lived through sufferage among so many other major civil rights movements and she believes that the world could be so much better with an open mind and understanding from all
- MANIPULATION • After spending eight decades perfecting the art of a con, Daisy's very good at manipulating people to get what she wants, whether that's their life's fortune or their bed when she's meant to be couch surfing in their apartment.
- SEXUAL EXPLOITS • Given her vast array of affairs with famous men over the years, it's suggested that Daisy is especially good in bed. These are men who were at the pinnacles of their careers in sports and on the silver screen and several of them were married; it would stand to reason that she was good at what she does for them to risk their careers and marriages, never mind their public images, to engage in these elicit affairs with her.
- DISCRETION • This sort of goes hand in hand with the previous two bullet points as well as the fact that she's basically living a lie. Daisy's life since death has been nothing more than a giant sham, wherein she leads a double life because she has no choice. So, suffice it to say, Daisy is very discreet when the situation calls for it. (Not so much after the situation has passed her by, though)
Weaknesses - OUTSPOKEN • Daisy has no problem saying exactly what she thinks directly to a person's face. She has no fear, because there's nothing left to be afraid of, so potential retaliation does not even register with her. It can get her into trouble, but more often, it can get the people she cares about into trouble.
- INSECURITY-PROPELLED CONTRADICTION • Because she's spent so many decades all alone, Daisy can be a little bit clingy with friends when she does make them and she's got an unwitting propensity as of late toward falling in with men who treat her very badly. Daisy will tell someone off for trying to control their wife, but will allow herself to be controlled. She's broken the hand of a man flirting crudely with her at speed-dating, but tolerated being dragged around roughly by the arm and hit in the face by a boyfriend, in canon. She'll put up with a lot more than she's willing to let others endure.
- CLOSED-OFF • Daisy will appear to put herself out there all out, but there's so much about herself that she will never share and it can take years for her to let a person in. Emotionally, she separates intentionally. She can be in a casual relationship with someone, but she won't allow herself to feel anything for them.
Plots - BFF — I'd love to see Daisy become really close with another person, most likely a female or a male who has feelings for her that are not returned, as those seem to be the friendships with which she appears most comfortable in canon, because she considers them "safe."
- PET PROJECT — It would be amazing if Daisy pinpointed someone (either male or female and probably in their teens or very early twenties, although that's just a guess and not an age range I'm married to) that she decided was so unfortunate that she needed to take them on as a fixer-upper project. This is someone I would expect to have probably some insecurity or self-esteem issues; someone who maybe wishes to scream they want the attention of their preferred gender but they can't ever get it together enough to command that attention, or someone who doesn't see themselves as anything other than hopelessly awkward or socially inept. She'll be gentle, she promises. ...probably.
- CONFIDANT — It would seem like this would go hand in hand with the BFF line but, in all likelihood, the BFF is the last person with whom Daisy would feel compelled to share some of her darkest secrets and painful memories. This person would be someone with whom she is especially close in this regard, but with whom she seldom spends her free time and who she, publically, largely ignores to keep people from realizing she's close with this person. This could be mutual or one-sided, but this person is Daisy's rock and she's not entirely proud of needing one, so she certainly doesn't parade her relationship with this person around.
